Metabolizing Mother: A Life Path

Metabolizing Mother has become a catch all phrase for what I am doing with my life’s work.

Metabolizing myself as new mother.

Tending to mothers in community– new, bereaved, and further along.

My relationship with my own mother, and hers, and hers.

The culture wounds.

The mother lines.

Tending to our connection with the great mother of all, the earth.

It’s a lifelong path.

Definitions & Etymologies

Metabolize: mə-ˈta-bə-ˌlīz

To metabolize is to transform by assimilation or decomposition, derived from the Greek metabole “a change” and lysis meaning “loosening” or “dissolution.”

Specifically it refers to biochemical change in the body– a shift in form that can be used for growth or repair– such as the metabolization of food into energy.

It is the purposeful conversion, simplification and return which drives new life. The movement of creation within us, constant change.

Mother: ˈmə-t͟hər (def. & etym.)

So many ways to define. A female parent, woman to her child. One who mothers (but what is this?). She who gives birth. Also inventor, origin, founder of something created. Something big & mighty, ultimate in scale.

The word mother comes to us from the mouthes of babes, “mā-,”old old old, and proliferated from that form into the Indo-European languages. It refers to matter, the stuff of existence. To matrix, which actually means uterus: the ever connected womb, darkness, mystery.

We all come from a human mother, at least one.

And then there is “Mother Nature,” the earth– from the Quechua pachamama: literally “World Mother.” We started saying this in English, along with “Mother toungue” and “Mother country,” in the late 1500s. Think of what was happening then. These wounds and those preceding are alive within us now. Asking to be healed and cleared.

Metabolizing Mother: The Ceremonial Initiation

Held in the elemental bosom of the earth we revisit the lineage of our birth— our mother’s, her mother’s, and our own.

Settle in for some deep embodied alchemy, and allow yourself to be guided through a visioning of the imprints of your maternal ancestry.

The blood that moved you to life built inside your mother’s body.

The cells that formed the ovum which became you were present in your grandmother’s womb.

Our metabolic DNA passed down via the mother lines, who’s names many of us have lost.

We journey through time and presence what is real within us from this story.

And then– feeling, expressing, releasing, to the elements.

Metabolizing Mother.

This group ceremony is a circle & meditation journey which initiates women to the imprints of their mother line, so that we can heal the woman wounds within and restore awareness of how deeply held we are in the bosom of the earth.

This circle is best facilitated outside, amidst the elements.
